Across 13 tracks, the artists explore density and sparseness through an emotional journey that follows Swift from her childhood farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains to her chosen home in Pasadena, California. After recently going fully independent parting ways with her label and her management team, she felt moved to translate the meaning of home and place through music, digging deep in the creative process to excavate her true self excavate a broader dimension to her artistry, while getting back in touch with her roots. “This is the first time I’ve released music independently,” says the internationally acclaimed artist. “I thought, ’In order for me to do this, I need to be in touch with who I am and my identity.’” As much as the music transmits wistful beauty, the story is one of recovery reclamation and renewal. "This album is really about healing the wounds of the past” says Swift. "This is the way I was able to reconcile the pain surrounding my childhood house fire and later the loss of my father in 2016. But thematically, it helped me recenter what Veronica Swift means to me, and to be back in touch with those roots.” To share a full understanding of herself with listeners, Swift chooses repertoire that honors the most trying eras of her life in concert with the most joyful. Home layers a narrative through dizzying bebop lines, tender guitar strumming, gospel and spiritual music changes, classic rock and deep Delta 20’s blues — each song paying homage to a significant moment in Swift’s life and career, but ultimately ushering in the next evolution in her ongoing Jazz journey.
